Meditation and mindfulness: 5 simple steps to get started

Meditation (from the Latin meditatio, reflection) is a practice used to achieve greater mastery of the activities of the mind, so that it becomes capable of concentrating on a single thought.

The earliest references to meditation are very old, dating back to around the 9th - 8th century BC: it is mentioned in various religions and philosophies - especially oriental ones - as a means of achieving a greater state of concentration and pondering, and achieving a level of “mindless awareness”. Not least because of the pandemic crisis and the resulting increase in stress and anxiety, meditation has proven to be a breakthrough for many that can alleviate the multitude of daily worries. But where to start? There are plenty of online courses and instructional videos to start meditating and introduce this new, inspiring habit into our days. Jingold, which has always promoted a healthy lifestyle through diet and sport, has a special surprise in store for you... while we wait to find out more, we have selected 5 simple but fundamental steps for approaching meditation:

  1. Carve out a small corner of the house to dedicate to meditation, possibly a comfortable, cosy and relaxing space
  2. Practise diaphragmatic breathing, trying to concentrate exclusively on your breath, trying to push away all thoughts and distractions
  3. To meditate, it is not necessary to maintain the classic position with your back erect and legs crossed: find a position that is comfortable for you and that allows you to concentrate on your breathing
  4. Try to meditate daily and regularly, choosing a time compatible with your schedule: early in the morning before breakfast, or perhaps in the evening, after you have done all your chores
  5. After finishing your practice, commit yourself to remain focused and aware of your actions in the immediate present, without continuously projecting into the past or future.

After meditation, you can choose to continue with a yoga or Pilates session to relax and tone your muscles. And after sport? Recharge your batteries with our Jingold kiwi and fill up on vitamins and minerals to nourish body and mind!
